A 70cm Silk Gum Wreath for National Sorry Day at Museums Victoria
At Lillypad Flowers, we understand that flowers can carry meaning far beyond their beauty. Sometimes they are used to celebrate, sometimes to remember, and sometimes to respectfully acknowledge an important part of our shared history.
We were honoured to create a 70cm silk gum wreath for Museums Victoria for National Sorry Day, providing a lasting floral tribute for this significant occasion.
Creating a Wreath with Meaning
For this wreath, we chose Australian native-inspired styling, with eucalyptus and gum foliage creating a natural, understated design.
Using silk flowers and foliage allowed us to create a wreath that could be displayed throughout the commemoration and retained as a lasting tribute. The natural textures and Australian character of gum foliage felt particularly appropriate for an occasion centred around remembrance, reflection and healing.
Our aim was to keep the design respectful, simple and dignified, allowing the meaning of the occasion to remain at the heart of the arrangement.

National Sorry Day
National Sorry Day is held each year on 26 May and provides an opportunity for Australians to acknowledge the history and ongoing impact of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities.
It is a day for remembering the Stolen Generations, listening to their stories and recognising the importance of healing, respect and reconciliation.
For organisations and institutions holding National Sorry Day commemorations, a wreath can provide a quiet and meaningful way to mark the occasion.
A Lasting Floral Tribute
At Lillypad, we regularly create wreaths for memorials, commemorations, ceremonies and significant events. For occasions such as National Sorry Day, we believe the floral design should complement the ceremony rather than take attention away from its purpose.
The 70cm size of this wreath provided a substantial presence while maintaining a natural and understated appearance. The silk gum foliage also means the wreath can be carefully stored and used as a lasting commemorative piece.
